The story

Context: Cáritas de Guatemala runs a program to reduce child malnutrition in communities across the country.
Challenge: Their tools could collect data but couldn’t keep each child’s history over time — collecting, organizing, analyzing and reporting was an enormous workload. Similar names among children and mothers caused confusion, and many communities have no connectivity.
Intervention: A two-part solution: a web application to view, download and analyze the data, and a mobile application for field staff.
Engineering: Each family gets a file number by department, municipality and community, exported to a QR code for lookup from the mobile app. The app works offline — including new records and photos — and syncs with the server as soon as there is internet. The system calculates the malnutrition diagnosis by comparing age, weight and height against WHO standards.
Outcome: A diagnosis per child and improvement reporting between measurements, with real-time dashboards and downloadable data for detailed analysis.
