1. PROBLEM ANALYSIS

Our client needed a tool for the collection and study of data in their project for the reduction of child malnutrition in Guatemala.

Before implementing this project, our client had worked with all the information through some software tools that, although they allowed them to effectively collect the data, did not provide a way to keep a historical record of the status of each child over time, which meant an enormous workload to collect, organize, analyze and deliver results.

2. OUR SOLUTION

After analyzing the problem the client was experiencing, our focus was on solving the problems and improving the entire data collection and analysis flow.

Taking into account our client’s needs, we implemented the solution in 2 parts:

A web application for viewing, downloading and analyzing the data.
A mobile application for field personnel where they enter information.

2. OUR SOLUTION

After analyzing the problem the client was experiencing, our goal then focused on solving the problems and improving the entire data collection and analysis flow.

Taking into account our client’s needs, we implemented the solution in 2 parts:

  • A web application for the visualization, downloading and analysis of the data.
  • A mobile application for field staff where they enter information.

DATA

The data needed to study child malnutrition are the age, weight and height of children, on which information is compared with data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO). By comparing the information, it is possible to determine if the child has malnutrition and its improvement over time.

INFORMATION ORGANIZATION

As our client works in many communities within Guatemala, they were often confused if the names of the children or mothers involved in the project were too similar.

We decided to implement a solution in which each family is assigned the department, municipality and community to which they belong and from this information generate a file number for each one. The file number is exported to a QR code to facilitate the search for information from the mobile application.

DATA COLLECTION

Because the data is collected in remote communities we need to implement a mechanism that allows us to save all the information, including creating new records, and uploading photos on site, and then synchronize with the central server automatically as soon as there is Internet access on the field technicians’ devices.

REPORTS

Our client’s objective is to study the positive impact of their project on improving the nutrition of the children they visit. For each child, the system calculates the diagnosis of malnutrition by aggregating the data and reports whether or not the children have improved since their last measurement. All this information can be downloaded from the application for a more detailed analysis or consulted directly on the web.
